The iPhone 12 mini price starts at Rs 69,900 while iPhone 12 price starts at Rs 79,900. iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will be available at starting at Rs 119,900 and Rs 129,900, respectively.
From different sizes to different features, Apple has tried to differentiate each 2020 iPhone model with each other. Some features are significant while others aren’t. However, there is a huge difference between the basic pro and non-pro iPhone models in terms of pricing. We have reviewed the iPhone 12 Pro this year. Let’s see if it is enticing enough for you to upgrade your existing iPhone or to those who are looking to enter the iOS ecosystem.
The iPhone 12 Pro’s three-camera setup is similar to last year’s iPhone 11 Pro with 12MP wide, 12MP ultra-wide and 12MP telephoto cameras. However, 12 Pro’s wide angle camera has an f/1.6 aperture compared to 11 Pro’s f/1.8 aperture to allow more light.
While the three-camera module remains almost the same, this year’s basic “Pro” variant is more about image processing, Deep Fusion and the latest LiDAR sensor. All cameras support Deep Fusion and Night Mode, which wasn’t the case with the iPhone 11 Pro. Now, you can take better selfies with the help of the front facing camera which is now equipped with the Deep Fusion technology and night mode. The selfie camera is the same as last year’s 12MP TrueDepth camera.
The LiDAR sensor coupled with the Deep Fusion technology has significantly improved edge detection and depth in portrait pictures. The results are far superior on iPhone 12 Pro as compared to the iPhone 11 Pro.
If we talk about photography in daylight conditions, the 12 Pro takes better pictures with details and natural colors if you compare it with 11 Pro. The phone’s pro software features like true exposure lock allows you to take more professional pictures.
Apple has also introduced the Smart HDR 3 which uses machine learning to apply selective adjustments to certain parts of the photo to offer a vibrant picture. Apple ProRAW will be coming to the iPhone 12 Pro series with the iOS 14.3 update.
When it comes to video recording, there are significant upgrades over iPhone 12 Pro’s predecessor. You can now capture 10-bit Dolby Vision HDR video at 4K resolutions with up to 60 fps on the iPhone 12 Pro. The front camera can take Dolby Vision up to 4K video up to 30 fps.
Dolby Vision videos can be shot using all three rear cameras. And, you are going to get the highest-quality video on any smartphone with rich and brighter colors, and plenty of details with better stabilization. The iPhone 12 Pro can also take night mode time-lapse, which iPhone 11 Pro didn’t offer.
Design and Display
The iPhone 12 series brings the first real design change in years with flat edges. The rounded sized, feature in iPhone X and iPhone 11 Pro, have now been replaced with a flattened stainless steel frame, which is inspired from the iPhone 4. The shiny stainless steel frame, however, attracts fingerprints, dust and smudges. It’s not a problem for those looking to protect their phone with a case.

The latest Pro model features Ceramic Shield cover glass, which as per Apple, offers up to 4x better shatter resistance than the predecessor’s display. On the back, it features textured matte glass and a circular magnet which allows you to use a MagSafe wireless charger. Apple hasn’t made any change when it comes to button and SIM tray placement.
Apple has marginally increased the width and height as compared to iPhone 12 Pro’s predecessor. But, you won’t feel much difference in terms of the overall size.
The iPhone 12 Pro’s design change has also allowed Apple to offer a 6.1 inch display without increasing the overall size of the phone. The iPhone 11 Pro featured a 5.8 inch display.
After a month-long usage, I can say the phone offers is comfortable to hold for sure even with the protective case, thanks to its new design which is slimmer at 7.4 mm down from 8.1mm.

The iPhone 12 Pro’s display with 2532-by-1170-pixel resolution at 460 ppi looks sharp and offers natural and shareper colors compared to iPhone 11 Pro’s 2436-by-1125-pixel resolution at 458 ppi. The display can reach a peak brightness of 1200 nits.
Performance

Under the hood, the iPhone 12 Pro comes powered by the new A14 Bionic SoC -- first 5nm SoC in a smartphone --and the processing power reflects in daily use with no slowdown issues at all. I played graphic rice games that ran smoothly on the phone, which also handled intensive tasks smoothly. The 6GB RAM certainly plays a role here.
I have already mentioned the role of LiDAR’s role in enhanced photography. The sensor allows AR apps to work better and has also enabled Apple’s measure app, which lets you measure height of a person. The People Detection' feature, which is available through the Magnifier app, also uses the sensor to help visually impaired people detect others around them through audible alerts. You can use apps like Snapchat and the [AR]T Museum to see what the sensor could do. The sensor shows that there are more use cases which Apple could unlock in future.
I would like to emphasize on the call quality and the phone’s modem as the experience was far better on iPhone 12 Pro, featuring Qualcomm's X55 5G mode. While you can’t use 5G in India yet, the introduction of the Qualcomm modem has certainly improved the internet experience with consistency and better speeds compared to iPhone 11 Pro.
The latest phone supports all popular sub-6GHz 5G bands, which means the phone will support India’s 5G upon commercial availability of the high-speed internet.
