The satellite-driven connectivity offers coverage to even remotest areas and enables disaster communication applications including location-based services used in rescue and restoration operations.
<\/div><\/div>In addition, the department, according to the official, is also looking at connecting the uncovered villages through satellite-based voice and data offering, as a part of Digital India ambition, eventually leading to a 100% telephony target as envisaged in the national policy<\/a>.
India has close to 3% or 18,000 villages that lie in remote areas including those with rough terrain.
The satellite capacity can also be used by telecom carriers for digital services at locations where the network deployments could be a difficult task. Separately, the BharatNet, an initiative to digitally connect 600,000 villages with fibre-based network, is also using satellite-based services to offer Internet<\/a> services in far-flung regions.
In 2019, the department has created a satellite division to streamline satellite communications (SatCom) related activities, and the wing closely works in coordination with the Department of Space (DoS) for planning and execution of satellite-related initiatives in India.

The satellite-driven connectivity offers coverage to even remotest areas and enables disaster communication applications including location-based services used in rescue and restoration operations.
<\/div><\/div>In addition, the department, according to the official, is also looking at connecting the uncovered villages through satellite-based voice and data offering, as a part of Digital India ambition, eventually leading to a 100% telephony target as envisaged in the national policy<\/a>.
India has close to 3% or 18,000 villages that lie in remote areas including those with rough terrain.
The satellite capacity can also be used by telecom carriers for digital services at locations where the network deployments could be a difficult task. Separately, the BharatNet, an initiative to digitally connect 600,000 villages with fibre-based network, is also using satellite-based services to offer Internet<\/a> services in far-flung regions.
In 2019, the department has created a satellite division to streamline satellite communications (SatCom) related activities, and the wing closely works in coordination with the Department of Space (DoS) for planning and execution of satellite-related initiatives in India.

The satellite-driven connectivity offers coverage to even remotest areas and enables disaster communication applications including location-based services used in rescue and restoration operations.
<\/div><\/div>In addition, the department, according to the official, is also looking at connecting the uncovered villages through satellite-based voice and data offering, as a part of Digital India ambition, eventually leading to a 100% telephony target as envisaged in the national policy<\/a>.
India has close to 3% or 18,000 villages that lie in remote areas including those with rough terrain.
The satellite capacity can also be used by telecom carriers for digital services at locations where the network deployments could be a difficult task. Separately, the BharatNet, an initiative to digitally connect 600,000 villages with fibre-based network, is also using satellite-based services to offer Internet<\/a> services in far-flung regions.
In 2019, the department has created a satellite division to streamline satellite communications (SatCom) related activities, and the wing closely works in coordination with the Department of Space (DoS) for planning and execution of satellite-related initiatives in India.
