Microsoft chairman and chief executive Satya Nadella, who begins his four-day official visit to India from Mumbai on Tuesday, is expected to meet key customers, startups, developers, not-for-profit organisations and students.

Hyderabad-born Nadella is also expected to interact with key government officials in New Delhi. This will be his first trip to the country since February 2020.

Nadella will begin the tour with a Microsoft industry summit in Mumbai on Tuesday and participate in industry summits across New Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad where the US-based technology behemoth's offices are located.

In Mumbai, Nadella will join the Microsoft Future Ready Leadership Summit to discuss India’s innovation ecosystem with industry leaders.

In New Delhi on Wednesday, he is expected to meet government officials including Minister of State for Electronics and IT,
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, and Union Minister of IT, Communications and Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Nadella’s visit comes just two weeks after Alphabet Inc’s India-born chief executive Sundar Pichai’s trip to the country.

“Our priority in India has been to drive broad and inclusive economic opportunity. Each time I visit, I look at how we’re creating local surplus and local jobs, how we’re helping small businesses become more productive, large businesses become more competitive, the public sector becoming more efficient, and helping drive greater health and education benefits,” Nadella told ET during an
exclusive interview in October last year.

This is also his first trip since being conferred with the
Padma Bhushan in 2022 for distinguished services to the nation.

Nadella, as well as Pichai and
Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran, were among the 17 people who received one of India’s highest civilian awards last year. He received the honour formally in San Francisco from India’s Consul General Dr TV Nagendra Prasad.

On the last day of his visit, Nadella is expected to address
Microsoft India employees from its office in Hyderabad.

“Our findings showed that 80% of employees in India say they need a better reason to go into the office than just company expectations,” Nadella had said in his previous interaction.

The 55-year-old executive has been widely credited with transforming the iconic software maker into a $198 billion technology powerhouse with a focus on mobile and Cloud. He will also meet Microsoft’s partners across philanthropic and education initiatives in India.

“…we’re collaborating closely with central and state boards to transform the future of learning and prepare teachers and students across India for a digital economy,” he had told ET.
