<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>NEW DELHI: Madhav Sheth<\/a>, Realme India<\/a> chief executive and global vice president has been elevated to lead the Europe and North America regions on the back of massive growth in India where the Chinese brand managed to consolidate its position among top five brands and gave a strong competition to its arch rival Xiaomi<\/a>.

“Management has a clear vision to become the leader in the European market. I will take my learnings from the Indian market to Europe and will also use learnings from that region to further grow in India. We want to be among the top five by 2021-end,” Sheth said in an exclusive interview.

“This is the first Indian nationality CEO in the
smartphone industry<\/a> that manages international business, from India to the world,” he claimed.

Realme is aiming to sell 15-20 million smartphones in the 2021 calendar year and will be targeting the 200-250 euros price category.

“I will focus on expanding Realme’s brand presence and business operations in the Europe region. This will involve leading product, marketing and sales functions.

Sheth has already started building local teams in Europe and will initially focus on Spain, France, Germany, Poland and Czech Republic.The foray will also see more elevations from the Indian team to these global markets.

“We are currently evaluating indian employees for global roles. We want to create opportunities for my team to learn new things and get their personal growth, so an exchange of Knowledge and experience between the India & Europe team is on my agenda,” he added.

Realme is aiming to massify the 5G technology in Europe with the help of a 5G only
smartphone<\/a> portfolio. Europe is an early adopter of the 5G technology, and there will be an increased demand for 5G handsets. “We will also have our 4G products. But because of the high rates of early adoption, we will be able to maximize 5G in Europe,” Sheth said

“Europe is quite a mature market when it comes to smartphone usage and penetration. Consumers place a high premium on distinctive features and services, and smartphone brands are striving to evolve the value proposition and ownership experience, therefore,” he said.

Counterpoint<\/a>, 5G smartphone sales accounted for 4% of the overall market sales in Europe in Q1 2020. “This presents new opportunities for growth for realme, further,” he said.

“We have also started discussions with telcos for bundling partnerships. They are keen, By 2021 all telcos will be onboard. The clear target is to set up the telco business within 2021,” Sheth said. “We have cleared our channel strategy and locked key business partners from our online to offline.”

Sheth said that Realme will increase its focus on the North America market next year even as the work has already started for the region. “The planning will happen post November. We will start by Diwali, and then work further on the plans for the North America market.”

The Chinese handset maker Realme had started its operations in India and gradually expanded its footprints to over markets and across 5 continents. In 2019, out of the 25 million global shipments, 16.2 million shipments were from the India market,

Realme maintained the fourth spot though its share declined to 11% as it faced manufacturing constraints due to the shut down of the factory for almost all of May, as per
Counterpoint<\/a> Research.

Relame<\/a> will also launch its entire portfolio of smart devices<\/a>, including wearables, audio products and smart TVs in Europe. Sheth said that the IoT market is a much more mature market in that region.
