The authorised capital of BSNL will be increased from Rs 1,50,000 crore to Rs 2,10,000 crore", an official statement said adding with this revival package, BSNL will emerge as a stable telecom service provider focused on providing connectivity to the remotest parts of India.

"The operating profit for FY2022-23 stood at Rs 1,559 crore. Also, the total debt of BSNL has been reduced by Rs 10,000 crore,” union telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.

BSNL has been allotted 10MHz in the 700MHz band for 22 LSAs worth Rs 46,338.60 crore, 70MHz in 3300MHz band for 22 LSAs worth Rs 26,184.20 crores, 800MHz in 21 LSAs and 650MHz in one LSA in the 26GHz band worth Rs 6,564.93 crore, 20MHz in six LSAs and 10MHz in two LSAs in the 2500MHz band worth Rs 9,428.20 crore.

There is also a provision of Rs 531.89 crore for miscellaneous purposes.

The statement added that with this spectrum allotment, BSNL will be able to provide pan-India 4G and
5G service, provide 4G coverage in rural and uncovered village under various connectivity projects, provide fixed wireless access (FWA) services, and offer services/spectrum for captive non-public network (CNPN).

The PSU has recently issued an advance purchase order (APO) of Rs 15,700 crores to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and ITI Limited for 1 lakh 4G sites. ITI has a reservation of 20% in BSNL’s 4G network deployment.

“BSNL will utilise the locally developed telecom stack by C-DoT, in partnership with TCS, to roll out its 4G and 5G network. As many as 200 sites have already been installed and for 3-4 months, live testing of the network will be done, after which the network will be ramped up fast with installation of 100-200 sites every day,” Vaishnaw said.

The roll out of 5G networks by private telecom operators Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel is already underway, with both telcos expecting to complete roll out within a year.

The roll out obligations for the 26 GHz band are similar to the mid-band (3300-3600 MHz) for the first year. This means that by the end of first year, a company has to commercially launch service anywhere in each of the three metros and at least in one city in each of India's 22 telecom circles.
