NEW DELHI: Offline retailers have slammed Korean handset maker Samsung for exclusively launching the Galaxy M13 and the F13 smartphones online, alleging that the brand is depriving retail of its “right to serve the customer and offer the latest product to the customer”.

“(We) pen down against repeated practice of offering preferential treatment to online by offering exclusive launches and offering window period sales there, depriving retail of its right to serve the customer and offer the latest product to the customer,” Navneet Pathak, Joint General Secretary of the All India Mobile Retailers Association (
AIMRA) said in a letter dated 21 July to Raju A. Pullan, Senior Vice President Mobile Business, Samsung India.

The letter is also addressed to the
Ministry of Finance, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, the Competition Commission of India, and other agencies as well as industry bodies.

The Galaxy M13 went on sale on July 23 at a starting price of Rs 13,999, while the Galaxy F13 is on sale from June 29 in India from Rs 11,999.

Pathak, in the letter, added that
Samsung did not provide visibility into the retail availability of the smartphones cited above which “remains a real cause of concern for those who traveled with brand wholehearted to make it number one”.

Offline retailers, in turn, reiterated their request for ensuing and maintaining a level-playing field on both the platforms by offering products at the same price, same time, and same schemes to maintain “high customer happiness quotient and high satisfaction instead of depriving his right to buy the product from the place of his choice instead of pushing to buy online”.
