NEW DELHI: Finnish telecom equipment maker Nokia on Thursday said it is adding a new Wi-FI 6 Beacon to its in-home WI-Fi portfolio, which is claimed to ‘deliver powerful user experiences.’

The Beacon 6, based on Wi-Fi 6, can deliver 40 percent faster data speeds than the previous Wi-Fi generations, it said in a statement.

To enhance in-home experience, Nokia has said that a low-latency technology has been added to its WI-Fi portfolio. The Nokia Beacon 6 allows operators an easy to install solution which supports low-latency applications, essential for a seamless 5G experience.

Ben Wood, chief of research at CCS Insight said that operators will be able to deliver a seamless communications platform for next-gen applications and solutions, courtesy of the blend of latest
Wi-FI 6 technology, low-latency performance and in-home Wi-Fi mesh solutions powered by 5G services.

Nokia said the Beacon 6 is the first Nokia Wi-Fi device to support a range of new technologies, including-- support for Wi-FI 6, improving overall speed, performance, and latency of Wi-Fi network with OFDMA2 modulation scheme, commonly used in 5G which allows the access point to talk to multiple devices at once.

Beacon 6 introduces Wi-Fi certified EasyMesh3 and Nokia claims its new mesh controller capabilities ensure the best Wi-Fi performance is achieved in the home by managing channel selection.

Nokia Bell Labs low-latency innovations including PI24 algorithm consistently improve latency. Nokia claims that with PI2, latency is reduced from hundreds of milliseconds to 20 milliseconds which can be further reduced to <5 milliseconds when paired with L4S in the core network.

L4S is currently being standardized by the IETF5 and builds on Bell Labs innovations that eliminate jitters and delays in use cases where low-latency is of utmost importance.
.
Nokia said Beacon 6 will allow operators to leverage the speed and performance of Wi-Fi 6 to seamlessly off-load 5G mobile traffic to the Wi-Fi network, allowing end users to stay connected to a 5G wireless network on-the-go without any disruptions. This is critical for operators looking to free up expensive 5G spectrum for higher ARPU use cases like
Industry 4.0 and IoT.

"By leveraging the potential of Wi-Fi 6, Nokia Becon 6 can establish a ‘faster and powerful Wi-Fi network’ in the home which will transform experiences for operators and end-users alike. She added that the ability to seamlessly switch from mobile 5G to Wi-Fi 6 will enable operators to roll out 5G rapidly," Sandra Motley, President of
Fixed Networks at Nokia said.

JB Rousselot, Chorus New Zealand’s Chief Executive Officer said that building on the progress in the ultra-fast broadband industry, they are excited to launch the 10G GPON services.
