Under the deal, Ericsson, the world\u2019s largest network gear maker, will provide the telecom unit of Reliance Industries its service fulfilment software solutions, comprising nine suites including Catalog Manager, Granite Inventory and GIS-based Network Engineer solution, one of the persons said on condition of anonymity.
Ericsson declined to comment on the deal. In response to queries, a Jio spokesperson said, \u201cAs a policy, we do not comment on any of our ongoing business discussions and decisions.\u201d
OSS comprise software applications which support a telecom operator\u2019s back-office activities and maintain customer services while business support system (BSS) are software applications that support activities involving customer interface such as billing, customer relationship management and call centre automation.
Ericsson\u2019s service fulfilment solutions offer telecom operators service agility across the process areas involved, from planning to provisioning and activation. With this solution, the operators can generate faster the products customers want, among other benefits.
<\/div><\/div>All solutions being provided to Reliance Jio belong to erstwhile OSS player Telcordia that Ericsson had acquired in January 2012 to boost its OSS portfolio. The deal has been given under TCO (total cost of ownership) model for three years, another person said, adding, \u201cAfter three years, AMC (annual maintenance contract) model of services will be applicable.\u201d
Reliance Jio has partnered with multiple vendors to streamline its OSS and BSS operations, including Cisco, HP, IBM, SAP, Cognizant and Subex, among others, the person said.
The operator, the newest entrant in India\u2019s telecom sector, is gearing up to start offering high-speed, broadband or 4G services, taking on rivals including Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India, amid increasing data usage by mobile phone subscribers.
While field trials for its services are on, the company expects to start full-fledged services in the first half of 2015 in phases. It is the only telecom operator to own 2300 Mhz bandwidth in all 22 circles of India through which it can offer 4G on the TDD-LTE standard.

<\/div><\/div>Ericsson is providing prepaid self-care solutions to Bharti Airtel covering the operator\u2019s Night Store. It has bagged two other deals from Aditya Birla Group\u2019s Idea Cellular. Idea selected Ericsson for real-time charging for its post-paid subscriber base and Evolved IP Network (EIN) solutions data charging deal.
Ericsson had earlier bagged a five-year deal from Vodafone India for managing the pre-paid charging system for the company\u2019s nearly 75 million customers spread across five key circles.
In addition to software deals, Ericsson has recently secured a contract from Bharti Airtel for supply of base stations and other equipment for its FDD-LTE-based 4G network which uses airwaves in the 1800 Mhz band.
