NEW DELHI: Indkal Technologies, the official licensee of Acer televisions<\/a> in India, said that it aims to sell a million smart TVs by the end of 2023, up from around half a million units in 2022. It will also foray into the home audio and consumer appliances<\/a> segment in coming months.

Indkal, which started selling
Acer<\/a> branded smart TVs from October 2021, said that the smart TV market<\/a> is growing very fast and is offering enough space to all brands including the new entrants.

“It is a market which will see a lot of movement towards better displays. Consumers will move beyond HD to FHD and further.. A big movement is also taking place towards larger size TVs in India from 32 to 43 inch TVs. The growth is accelerating. In 24 months, 32 will not be a more popular size for TVs,”

The
smart TV<\/a> market will achieve double digital growth over last year, the executive said.

Acer smart TVs<\/a> are priced between Rs 13,999 and Rs 37,000 under the i-series. It also offers premium smart TVs which are priced slightly higher, the executive said.

Smart TV share in India<\/a>’s overall TV market grew 33% YoY in Q1 2022 to reach its highest ever at 89%, according to the latest research from Counterpoint. Xiaomi led the smart TV market during the quarter with a 14.3% share, followed by Samsung at 13.1%.

The increased preference for smart TVs along with sales growth in online channels were the major growth drivers. New launches from leading brands at affordable prices, along with discounts and promotions, also aided in the shipments, as per Counterpoint.

India’s smart TV market is mostly offline-driven, with 69% of the shipments happening in offline channels. But online channels are increasing and offering various discounts.

Dubey said that the company is building its presence in consumer electronics and durable space. “We want to become a relevant player in TV, Washing machines and air conditioners.”

The company may launch its consumer durable products under new brands, Dubey said. He, however, didn’t specify if such products will be launched under the Acer brand.

Under the Acer brand, the company will launch products like home theater systems and sound bars, which are complementary to its smart TV business.

It will make all products locally and has joined hands with third-party contract manufacturers.
