NEW DELHI: India’s wearables market grew 118.2% year-over-year in 2Q21 (April to June), shipping 11.2 million units, fueled by strong shipments from homegrown brands in earwear and watches categories, according to the latest data from the International Data Corporation’s (IDC) India Monthly Wearable Device Tracker.

Watches continued to be the fastest-growing category accounting for 81.2% share in the wristwear segment that includes watches and wristbands, up from 35% a year ago. The watches category registered shipments of 1.60 million units.

Among the top five watch companies, three spots are occupied by brands Noise (1st spot with 28.6% share), boAt (2nd spot with 26.9% share), and Fire-boltt (4th spot with 5.5% share).

Noise continued to be the leading player for five quarters in a row whereas Fire-boltt made its presence felt in the market in just three quarters of starting its business in the category, the report said. While Huami and
Realme stood at 3rd and 5th positions, respectively.

“Affordability has been the key for Indian brands, and these brands have been immensely successful in gaining a significant portion of the watch market with competitive pricing, aggressive marketing, and faster adoption of new features,” says Anisha Dumbre, Market Analyst, Client
Devices, IDC India.
