As mentioned by Android Police, Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL come with a feature called ‘Screen Attention’ that keep the display awake as long as you are watching the screen. The report also adds that this feature doesn’t use Project Soli but the front-facing camera, which means this is a software feature that can arrive to older devices as well. However, it might not be the case.

When asked about the feature coming to older Pixel devices, Google confirmed that it’s not planning to bring it to smartphones other than Pixel 4 for now.

Android Police founder Artem Russakovskii tweeted a screenshot of the particular feature’s introduction page that clearly mentions ‘Screen attention uses the front camera to see if someone is looking at the screen. It works on device, and images are never stored or sent to Google.’

However, on the bright side, the company says it doesn’t plan to bring the feature ‘for now’, which does leave some hope for it to arrive to other devices at a later date.
