The research firm attributed the growth to factors such as improved supplies, leaner inventory, multiple new launches, and faster portfolio refresh.

Fire-Boltt<\/a>, and Noise<\/a> led the overall wearables market in India with a market share (by volume) of 25.6%, 12.4%, and 11.9%, respectively. Boult Audio<\/a> and Oppo<\/a> (incl. OnePlus<\/a>) held 9.3% and 4.7% share, slotting into the fourth and fifth ranks, as per IDC<\/a>.

According to the research firm’s data, however, Boult Audio<\/a> grew the strongest at 366.5% year-over-year in Q1, Fire-Boltt<\/a> grew 238.3%, boAt grew 102.4%, and Noise<\/a> grew 97.3%, while Oppo<\/a> was the only brand whose shipments dropped 5.8%.

IDC noted that India-based wearables brands, cumulatively holding over 15% share, is further intensifying the competition which is resulting in a drop in the average selling prices (ASPs) to Rs 1,860 ($22.7) compared to Rs 2,410 ($29.5) a year ago.

The smartwatch category grew the strongest at 178.9% year-over-year in the January-March quarter in 2023 to 10.4 million shipments, while the earwear category grew 48.5%, and the wristband category fell 86.7% during the same period.

Within the earwear category, the TWS share is now 63.9% from 48.1% a year ago. The transition from neckbands to TWS is continuing from 2022, with ASPs at $12.2 and $20.4 respectively in 1Q23.

“Enhancements in audio quality through ANC\/ENC and aesthetically appealing designs will be key differentiators in 2023. Moving beyond audio capabilities by incorporating health tracking technology will be essential for sustained growth,” said Vikas Sharma, senior market analyst, wearable
devices<\/a>, IDC India.

The smartwatch ASP declined by 42.0% year-over-year to reach $29.2 (vs $50.4 a year back).

“Brands are bringing a variety of smartwatch models with metal straps\/casing, circular dials, rugged finish, and premium designs. Clubbed with advanced communication features like LTE, digital payment options, and more accurate sensors\/algorithms, brands are attracting new smartwatch consumers as well as fueling refresh buying,” said Upasana Joshi, Research Manager, Client

In 2023, IDC expects the smartwatch market to cross 50 million units, up from 30.7 million in 2022.
