<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure> NEW DELHI: Airtel Payments Bank<\/a> has appointed Anubrata Biswas<\/a> as its managing director and chief executive officer.

Biswas will spearhead Airtel<\/a> Payments Bank’s plan of widening its digital banking services footprint in the country, Bharti Airtel<\/a> said in a statement on Thursday. The posts had fallen vacant after Shashi Arora quit the company in December 2017.

Prior to joining Airtel Payments Bank, Biswas was ICICI Bank<\/a>’s joint general manager and retail business head for south India.

\"I am confident that his experience will add immense value to the bank’s agenda of financial inclusion and digital leadership,” Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman of Airtel Payments Bank, said.

Arora, the telco’s former Payments Bank head, had quit the company following a controversy in which Airtel was hauled up for opening payments bank accounts without requisite approvals and consent of subscribers. The controversy led the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI<\/a>) temporarily barring Bharti Airtel from conducting Aadhaar-based e-KYC<\/a>, or electronic know-your-customer, verification for payments bank operations.
