<\/figure>Kolkata: The government has established a National Broadband Mission<\/a> (NBM<\/a>) directorate to track time-bound meeting of countrywide broadband connectivity expansion targets as part of efforts to bridge the digital divide.The directorate will create a central dashboard on the telecom department's portal, which will offer monthly updates on actual progress levels around meeting national broadband expansion goals, including setting up of digital communications<\/a> infrastructure and providing affordable universal broadband services<\/a> across India.
The directorate will comprise a mission director and three deputy mission directors (DMDs), who will collectively monitor and review progress levels of wired and mobile broadband penetration levels. They will also oversee deliverables around issue of right of way (RoW<\/a>) clearances and mapping of optical fibre cable (OFC<\/a>) networks. Additional officers and some contractual staff will support the NBM directorate's top deck.
<\/div><\/div>\u201cThe NBM directorate will function under the overall supervision of the DG, Telecom, who in turn, will submit a monthly report on the progress of the NBM to the telecom secretary,\u201d the Department of Telecommunications<\/a> (DoT<\/a>) said in a notification Tuesday.
